Dear Friends,

It was another year of transition while we devoted our efforts to replacing the footbridge that connects the way to Squirrel Point. The new bridge is a work of art, and will serve us well for years to come. It was a complex project, and we’re immensely grateful for how our project partners and the community so generously came together to make it happen.

Shortly after the last plank on the bridge was in place, many of you came out for the day and helped organize the workshop, clean the keeper’s house, remove invasive bittersweet, paint, and mow. And in September, we were again a popular destination for the annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day, welcoming over 100 visitors, including the family here.

We’ve shared with you that the siding and trim of the keeper’s house are in urgent need of attention, and the windows still need to be rebuilt and restored. The sill under the door of the light tower itself has rotted, which is why it’s been closed to visitors during Maine Open Lighthouse Day. Over the last year we’ve also observed – and friends have reported – a crack beginning to show in the foundation of the bell room that is attached to the light tower.

While we assess the tower and bell room for the extent of repairs needed, this much we know: most of the existing stone foundation and slab will need to be rebuilt.

With a number of projects already in the queue, there’s no question that the tower rises to the top of our concerns. In the coming year we’ll share with you our strategy and timeline to tackle these projects.

Your past support has made a real difference in supporting our mission to restore Squirrel Point and provide public access to the property. Please join us in making a year-end gift as we work together to sustain Squirrel Point for future generations. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress in 2026.

Thank you!
